Bringing energy to new shores
Windion develops a system harvesting wind at sea and delivering steerable electricity to small and large grids through light infrastructure.
Urgency
Time is running out to deploy large, sustainable and independent energy production systems. At Windion we are convinced that mobility is key to fast and seamless deployment and operation at small and large scale.
The island problem
Islands electricity is tied to oil and has a heavy carbon footprint reaching 600 g/kWh eq CO₂. Additionally, it comes with a production price four times higher than mainland electricity. Yet, many could benefit from strong wind energy near their coasts.
The solution
Windion is a sail boat that produces electricity stored on batteries and delivers it near shore. It requires no assembly port in vicinity and can operate above deep sea.
Resilience
As a ship, Windion is not threatened by hurricanes and can even accomplish rescue missions to support damaged grids.
Impact
These capabilities make Windion a low impact solution delivering seamless deployment both for islands and mainlands lacking continental shelves. Moreover, it features a competitive levelized cost of electricity at large scale.
